If you love to toy with a camera, you need to think about it seriously. Photography is a growing business, and if you learn to take better pictures, you may turn it into a solid career. The first thing you need to invest in is a good camera and accessories, next is the habit to learn.
Here are some important tips on how to take better pictures.
You must click photographs in a way that compliment the subject. Light can make an object appear too bright or too dull, making features invisible.
While you can use shades and reflectors to improve conditions, the placement of your subject and your camera is also important.
Use the sun as your advantage. If the sun is behind the subject, take pictures from the front and vice versa.
Having just one subject in a photograph would allow you to concentrate on one focal point and get better results. You can then also zoom in properly on one subject and enhance its features.
Photographing is all about being creative. You need to sink in deep into your imagination and come up with interesting scenarios such as interaction of the subject with an object, or changing your direction more into an angle. You can even use interesting props in the background to make it look better.
Other than this, try to tell a story with your pictures and give it a unique theme.
Many photographers make the mistake of neglecting the background. The belief that others are going to concentrate only on the subject is wrong, as viewers will see picture as a whole. The right background can enhance a picture and a wrong background can ruin it.
Background should be chosen keeping the subject and theme in mind. You should also experiment with it and make sure it contrasts well with the subject.
A better picture is one which isn’t messy. Creating more than two focus points can ruin a photos. Adding a lot of unnecessary functionalities may take away from the actual picture.
Timing is everything when it comes to photography. If your pictures aren’t timed perfectly you won’t be seeing good quality photos. Let’s consider you’re covering a sports related event and the action is fast, so you need to set your shutter speed to ‘fast’ which is around 1/500th of a second. On the other hand, if you’re at a birthday party and framing portraits and singles then set your shutter speed to ‘slow’ which ranges from 1/1000th to 1/2000th of a second.
No picture is complete without a few strokes of editing. We’d suggest you to use Luminar which is available for Mac users. It is developed by Skylum and it takes care of all your needs. Even the best of photographers use editing tools, and this one is a good choice considering it only costs you $69.
